TRAVEL ITINERARY

The Machame Route, also known as the Whiskey Route, is the most popular route on Kilimanjaro. The attraction of the Machame Route lies in its scenic beauty. The route is considered difficult, steep and strenuous, mainly because of the shorter distance. Therefore, this route is more suitable for adventurous people who already have experience with high mountain, hiking or backpacking tours. The route approaches Kilimanjaro from the south and leads through the rainforest to the Shira Plateau. This is where many of the Kilimanjaro routes meet. The route then turns eastwards and crosses the southern ice field of Kilimanjaro on the so-called Southern Circuit before reaching the summit.
