TRAVEL ITINERARY
Ol Doinyo Lengai means «The Mountain of God» in the Maasai language. The 2886 metre high Ol Doinyo Lengai is the only active volcano on the planet that emits nitro-carbonate lava. Due to its uniqueness, it is often referred to as the strangest volcano on earth. It is also described as a scientifically and geochemically valuable sanctuary. The most recent eruption took place on 27 March 2006. The ascent of Ol Doinyo Lengai is usually combined with a game safari. The mountain is located near Lake Natron and thus on the way to the Serengeti. Ol Doinyo Lengai is a physically demanding climb. Its steep slope makes the ascent as well as the descent a challenge. During the day, the heat is unbearable. The best time for the ascent is at night, when the temperatures are lower. This allows you to experience the sunrise on the summit and descend before the sweltering heat sets in.
